Irish Cherries

1 quart fresh sweet cherries

1 cup sugar

1 Tablespoon whole allspice

1 Tablespoon whole cloves

3 cinnamon sticks

1 pint whiskey

Remove stems and wash cherries.

Fill wide mouth jar with a layer of cherries, followed by about 1/4 cup sugar and a few of the whole spices (You should have about 4 layers).

Fill with the whiskey.

Seal or cork the jar, and let in stand in a dark place for about 6 months (In my house the bottles come out for Christmas!).

Strain out liquid to serve as a liqueur, and use the cherries as hors d'oeuvres (Making sure to keep them away from dogs and children!).
